Dear readers.
Sorry about the lack of updates the last few weeks. There was a technical problem with the blog, and the re-launch of Echos Dayton this weekend has taken up the bulk of my time. So, the page hasn't been updated in almost 2 weeks. My deepest apologies.
To begin, Rustbelt 2008 was sucessful on several fronts. Dayton's team showed respectfully, with D.M., Bill Abbott, Matthew Estvanic (yours truly) and Purity Chitwood all representing thesmelves with talent and enthusiasm. Purity reached the individual finals. Also, Dayton poet Dave Nichols, slamming for Columbus' Black Pearl Poetry team, also made (and WON!) the invidual finals. Not sure which team won the team title yet, as I had to leave early.
On to this week...
This week's events feature the Wednesday night open mic @ One Eyed Jacks that is steadily building up steam. As more folks find out about the show, I think it can be a really nice mid-week institution - once Link finds a name for it (dig! dig! with a smile!). Be sure to check that out.
Also, this week features the triumphant return of Echos Dayton to the Miami Valley at our new home at One Eyed Jacks. Some details on the show:
Admission: Free
Format:
Writer's Workshop @ 7:30- Bring TEN copies of new poem or a poem in progress to receive feedback from other poets and writers. This is designed to promote collaboration and community among local writers and hopefully be a seed for a little magazine that Fred Kirchner and I cooked up in our scheming little brains.
Open Mic @ 8:30 - All poets invited to read a poem, followed by poems from Echos folks
Features @ 9-ish - Each week, we'll have one poet feature and two bands/musical artists
ALSO- DJ Nothin' will keep the energy level up, spinning everything from classic hiphop to deep soul to afrobeat to Icelandic glitch pop.
